KABUL, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched the construction of a new health center in southern Zabul province, the official media Bakhtar news agency reported Friday.

The 150-bed hospital, with a total cost of 85 million afghanis (over 1.2 million U.S. dollars), aims to improve access to essential healthcare services for residents in the region, the report said.

Once completed, the facility is expected to address pressing medical needs and strengthen public health services in the province.

The initiative is part of the Afghan government's ongoing efforts to enhance the national healthcare system, including expanding medical facilities and improving access to quality healthcare services across the country.
