VIENTIANE, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 5,740 traffic accidents were recorded across Laos from January to November, resulting in 782 deaths and 8,873 serious injuries.
The main causes of the accidents were speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Lao Ministry of Public Security on Monday.
In addition, Lao officials have issued regulations aimed at reducing traffic accidents during the upcoming New Year holiday.
To help prevent accidents during the celebrations, authorities have intensified inspections on major roads and at high-risk locations, while urging motorists to avoid drinking and driving, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, wear helmets properly, and strictly comply with traffic laws. ■
