KABUL, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in arms trafficking in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province and recovered arms and ammunition from them, said a statement from the provincial police office on Sunday.
According to the statement, the alleged arms smugglers were attempting to smuggle the weaponry by motorbike from Burka district to an unknown location, but were arrested on Saturday. Police seized a pistol along with bullets and projectiles in their possession.
After preliminary investigation, the suspects will be handed over to relevant authorities for further legal proceedings, the statement added.
The Afghan government, which has banned unauthorized possession and carrying of weapons, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from all individuals outside state security organs in the post-war nation. ■
