NEW DELHI, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Four members of a family were charred to death Monday after a fire broke out inside their mud house in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, police said.
The fire broke out in the house in Sauria village of Howrah district, about 71 km west of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.
"Early today, a distress call about a fire inside a residential house was received, after which firefighters were rushed to the spot. Four family members were found burnt to death inside the house," a police official said.
The victims were identified as a 72-year-old man, his son and daughter-in-law (both in their 40s) and his granddaughter aged 15.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. ■
