KABUL, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Construction of 22 cold storage facilities is underway across Afghanistan to enhance the preservation of agricultural products, the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs announced on Saturday.
The facilities will have a combined capacity to store nearly 26,000 metric tons of agricultural produce. This project seeks to significantly reduce post-harvest losses, provide greater support to local farmers, and contribute to sustainable economic growth and development, according to the office's statement.
In the near future, work on three additional cold storage facilities, in cooperation with China, will commence in Kabul and northern Balkh province, each with a capacity of 1,500 metric tons, it said.
These facilities are part of the government's broader efforts to modernize the country's agricultural sector through the construction of multiple cold storage facilities, aimed at supporting farmers in a nation where agriculture remains a cornerstone of the economy. ■
