KABUL, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces confiscated 187 kg of illegal narcotics during a counter-narcotics operation in eastern Ghazni province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said on Wednesday.
The seizure took place in the vicinity of Gelan district, where authorities intercepted a consignment intended to be smuggled from the northern part of the country to the south, according to the ministry's statement.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene, and their cases have been referred to judicial authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate development, police in the capital Kabul detained 52 individuals on Sunday during multiple operations targeting the sale, purchase, and trafficking of illicit drugs.
The Afghan government has reiterated its commitment to intensifying the nationwide campaign against drug production, trafficking, and abuse. ■
