HANOI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese National Assembly has mandated tighter control of traffic emissions and the removal of motor vehicles that fail to meet environmental standards from 2026 to 2030, local daily VnExpress reported Wednesday.

Under the newly adopted resolution on improving the effectiveness of implementing laws and policies on environmental protection, authorities must take urgent measures to curb air pollution in major cities such as the capital Hanoi and the southern hub Ho Chi Minh City.

The resolution also calls for a comprehensive roadmap for a green transition in the transport sector.

According to the document, by 2030, Hanoi must reduce its average annual PM2.5 concentration by 20 percent compared with 2024 levels, while surrounding provinces must achieve at least a 10-percent reduction.
