YANGON, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 8.59 million stimulant tablets in central Myanmar's Mandalay region, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police intercepted a vehicle in Pyin Oo Lwin township, Mandalay region on Nov. 29 and confiscated 2.39 million stimulant tablets, the report said.

A follow-up search on the same day led to the seizure of an additional 6.2 million tablets hidden in bushes in the same township, the report said.

The report said four suspects were arrested, three who were in the vehicle and a fourth individual.

Investigation showed that the narcotics were being transported from Shan state to Taungup town in Rakhine state, it said.

The suspects have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigation is ongoing, it added.
