VIENTIANE, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Laos will establish ore inspection offices at seven key border checkpoints to strengthen mineral export quality control and boost state revenue.
The initiative aims to close gaps in the current export oversight system, where inspections are conducted only at the initial stage, leaving the supply chain vulnerable to smuggling, adulteration with lower-quality materials, or substitution with high-value ores. Operations are expected to begin by the end of 2025, Lao Economic Daily reported on Friday.
The initiative represents a significant step in improving the management of Laos' natural resources. Amid ongoing economic and financial challenges, enhancing governance in the mineral extraction and export sector has become essential to ensure transparency and maximize benefits to the state. ■
