COLOMBO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Around 85 percent of power connections disrupted due to the emergency disaster situation caused by Cyclone Ditwah have now been restored in Sri Lanka, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced Thursday.
Noel Priyantha, deputy general manager of the CEB, said the severe weather had disrupted power to 3.9 million of nearly 7 million electricity consumers in the country, noting that the majority of these connections have now been restored.
According to the CEB, 16,771 transformers became inactive during the emergency period. Technicians have since repaired and restored 14,549 units, with work continuing to bring the remaining transformers back online as soon as possible. ■
