CANBERRA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Australian government on Thursday committed additional funding for the disaster response to cyclones and flooding in Asia and the Pacific.
Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong and International Development Minister Anne Aly announced that Australia will provide an additional 5 million Australian dollars (3.3 million U.S. dollars) in aid to the region, taking the federal government's total assistance funding since October to over 14 million Australian dollars.
The funding announced on Thursday includes 2.5 million Australian dollars for Sri Lanka's response to Cyclone Ditwah.
Wong said on Thursday that Australia is committed to supporting its neighboring countries in good times and bad. (1 Australian dollar equals 0.66 U.S. dollars) ■
