SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's special counsel additionally indicted former impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol on a perjury charge on Thursday.

Park Ji-young, deputy special prosecutor and spokesperson of Cho Eun-suk, special counsel leading the investigation into Yoon's insurrection and other charges, told a press briefing that the additional indictment was filed for perjury in connection with Yoon's testimony at the trial of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

Yoon was accused of giving false testimony when he appeared as a witness last month at the trial of Han, who was charged with aiding and abetting the leader of the insurrection.

The impeached president said at the court that he had planned the cabinet meeting before Han's recommendation to declare an emergency martial law, but the special prosecutor team concluded that Yoon initially had no intention of holding the cabinet meeting, given that he summoned a grossly insufficient number of cabinet members at first.

The constitutional court upheld a motion to impeach Yoon on April 4 over his botched martial law bid last December, officially removing him from office.

The ousted leader was indicted under detention on Jan. 26 as a suspected ringleader of insurrection.
