ISLAMABAD, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 3 police personnel were killed and another injured on Wednesday after a terrorist attack on a police mobile in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
A police officer seeking anonymity told Xinhua that a police party was on patrol duty in Paniyala area of the district when the incident took place.
Unknown terrorists hurled a hand grenade at the police party, followed by gunfire, leading to the killing of three police personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector and two policemen.
Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted bodies and the injured to a nearby hospital.
Earlier reports said that it was a bomb blast that hit a police vehicle. However, police confirmed that it was a hand grenade and a gunfire attack.
Security forces and police had cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
