SYDNEY, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Authorities at a Sydney port have seized 27 kg of cocaine that was found concealed inside a refrigerated shipping container, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) said on Wednesday.
The AFP and ABF said in a joint statement that anomalies in the rear of the container were identified by an X-ray examination on its arrival at Sydney's Port Botany on Tuesday.
Further examination by ABF officers located 22 individually wrapped blocks, with an estimated total weight of 27 kg. Presumptive testing of the blocks returned a positive reading for cocaine.
The AFP seized the illicit drugs, which authorities said had an estimated value of 9 million Australian dollars (about 5.92 million U.S. dollars) and could have supplied 135,000 street-level deals.
Packages containing tracking devices were also located in the container and investigations into the import are ongoing. ■
