COLOMBO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police on Wednesday seized 345 kg of narcotics, which are suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, or "ice," during a pre-dawn raid in Kirinda in the country's Southern Province, a police spokesperson said.
The drugs were brought ashore by boat to be collected by accomplices, and eight suspects were arrested, according to F.U. Wootler, Sri Lanka's police media spokesperson and assistant superintendent of police.
The narcotics are believed to belong to a drug trafficker currently residing in Dubai, Wootler said, adding that the boat used for the smuggling operation has not yet been located.
Authorities also seized six vehicles allegedly linked to the smuggling network, Wootler said.
The suspects are being interrogated, and police are working on tracing the drug-smuggling vessel, according to him. ■
