COLOMBO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- A special discussion chaired by Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa was held recently to establish a steering committee aimed at digitally transforming Sri Lanka's free healthcare system.
The meeting focused on aligning the digital transformation of the healthcare sector with the national health policy to be implemented over the next decade. Participants reviewed both short-term and long-term strategies to achieve this goal.
Extensive discussions were held on developing a strategic framework for digitalization, strengthening healthcare infrastructure through digital technology, implementing key projects with international cooperation, and identifying core concepts and requirements for the transformation process. The establishment of the proposed steering committee and its expected outcomes were also discussed.
Attention was also given to building the necessary human resources and introducing training programs to support the digital transformation.
A draft concept paper covering these focal areas was presented by Arjuna Thilakarathne, deputy director general of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media. ■
