KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia is eyeing 2.5 billion ringgit (600 million U.S. dollars) in trade at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) Shanghai.
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said in a statement on Thursday that the event underscores Malaysia's continued commitment to strengthening Malaysia-China economic ties.
In his opening remarks, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasized that Malaysia's partnership with China goes beyond trade, rooted instead in mutual trust, shared prosperity, and strong people-to-people connections.
By hosting the MIHAS in Shanghai, he said the MATRADE is providing Malaysian companies, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises, with a strategic opportunity to meet demand as they gain direct access to buyers and partners who are looking to accommodate this high-quality consumer niche across China and the broader East Asia region.
The event is being held in conjunction with the 8th China International Import Expo in Shanghai. ■
