BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The rapid evolution of the digital landscape, including the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), presents emerging challenges for mental health, particularly among children, a senior Brunei government official said on Monday.
With internet coverage in Brunei reaching over 99 percent for 4G and 97 percent for 5G, there is a growing need for collective responsibility to safeguard children's well-being in an increasingly connected society, said Hajah Nor Hashimah Mohammed Taib, the attorney-general of Brunei.
She was speaking at the Consultation on the Right to Mental Health in the Digital Age, which focused on protecting children's mental health and was held near the capital.
The event gathered representatives from the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), policymakers, child mental health specialists, digital safety experts, and law enforcement practitioners from across Southeast Asia.
Distinguished panelists included leading regional experts and practitioners from healthcare, law enforcement, digital safety, and regulatory bodies. ■
