KABUL, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested three individuals on charges of involvement in arms and ammunition smuggling in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, provincial police spokesman Mullah Assadullah Jamshid said Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation in Shurabak district recently and discovered two Kalashnikov assault rifles, a hand grenade, a machine gun, and hundreds of bullets and rounds, the official said.
According to the official, three individuals were attempting to smuggle the weaponry out of the country but police identified and took them into custody for investigation.
Without providing more details, the official warned that legal action would be taken against anyone who smuggles weapons or illegal drugs elsewhere in the province. ■
