JAKARTA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia plans to expand the use of its Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) digital payment system to Saudi Arabia and India, following its successful implementation in several Southeast Asian countries, Bank Indonesia said on Thursday.
The QRIS system is currently available for cross-border transactions in Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, and is in the process of being introduced in Japan and South Korea.
"We will continue to connect the QRIS to India, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. The QRIS is not only a symbol of our sovereignty, but also a demonstration of our competence to operate cross-border," Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said at the Indonesia Digital Economy Festival and the Indonesia Fintech Summit and Expo in Jakarta.
According to the central bank, the total digital payment transactions in Indonesia reached 12.99 billion in the third quarter of 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 38.08 percent. Transactions using QRIS alone surged 147.65 percent, reflecting a strong increase in both users and merchants adopting the system. ■
