COLOMBO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The highest number of dengue mosquito breeding sites in Sri Lanka have been found within school premises, local media News First reported Monday, citing the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).

Prashila Samaraweera, a specialist attached to the NDCU, said that inspections revealed 43 percent of schools surveyed contained active mosquito breeding sites.

The report comes as dengue cases continue to rise across the country, with the situation worsening due to ongoing rainy weather conditions.

According to the NDCU, 11 districts have been classified as high-risk areas for dengue transmission.

Health officials have urged school authorities, parents, and local government bodies to take immediate preventive measures to remove mosquito breeding grounds, especially in and around schools.
