SYDNEY, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- An Australian soldier has died in a vehicle rollover during a training exercise in the state of Queensland on Wednesday night.
Ambulance crews and a rescue helicopter responded to the incident at the Australian Army's Townsville Field Training Area in North Queensland after 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported on Thursday.
The Australian Defense Force on Thursday confirmed that one male soldier died at the scene of the incident. Two other male soldiers were taken to the hospital with less serious injuries and were discharged on Thursday.
ABC reported that the vehicle involved in the incident was an M113 armored personnel carrier from the Australian Army's 3rd Brigade, which is based in Townsville.
Townsville is Australia's largest garrison city. Two soldiers died in a single-vehicle-rollover on a public road near the Townsville Field Training Area in 2021. ■
