VIENTIANE, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Lao State Fuel Company has opened a new fuel import route through Vietnam's Nghi Son Port to enhance energy security and ensure a stable fuel supply to Laos, Lao Economic Daily reported on Wednesday.

The route connects the Nghi Son Special Economic Zone Port in Vietnam's Thanh Hoa province to Laos, passing through the Nam Kang International Checkpoint in northern Laos' Xieng Khuang province and the Nam Soi International Checkpoint in northern Laos' Huaphan province.

The imported fuel will be stored at the Nathong depot in Huaphan, the report said.

The new route supports the Lao government's efforts to ensure stable fuel supply nationwide and meets the rising infrastructure and industrial demands in northern Laos, the report said.

This initiative not only ensures a reliable fuel supply but also strengthens trade ties between Laos and Vietnam. The launch of the new route is seen as a key step toward strengthening energy security and promoting regional economic growth, it added.

Laos currently imports fuel mainly from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.
