COLOMBO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government has restarted work on 17 health sector projects that were halted due to the economic crisis at the estimated cost of 58 billion rupees (about 193.3 million U.S. dollars), said a minister on Thursday.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said in Kandy that his ministry will soon complete all projects that were halted due to funding constraints.
He made the statement at the opening of "Seth Piyasa," a women's cancer treatment ward at the cancer treatment center of the Kandy National Hospital.
Meanwhile, talking to senior Buddhist leaders in Kandy on the same day, the minister said the government will build a hospital dedicated to cardiac patients in Colombo, which is expected to cost 13 billion Sri Lankan rupees (about 43.3 million dollars). ■
