KABUL, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security personnel have discovered an ammunition depot in eastern Parwan province, a police official reported on Wednesday.
Acting on intelligence reports and a tip-off, the depot, which included 40 mortar shells, 47 heavy machine gun rounds, and four hand grenades, was uncovered during an operation in Shekh Ali district, said Fazul Rahim Muskenyar, the provincial police spokesman.
No individuals were arrested in connection with the case, the official noted, adding that police will not allow anyone to possess ammunition or military equipment illegally.
Since assuming power in August 2021, the Afghan government has collected thousands of weapons and vast stockpiles of ammunition across the country, as part of efforts to stabilize security in the conflict-scarred nation and create a safer environment for reconstruction and development. ■
