COLOMBO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan exports to the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia have risen significantly over the past seven months, a deputy minister said Monday at an event in Colombo.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe said Sri Lankan exports increased by 8 percent between January and July 2025. Both the volume of exports and the range of destinations have expanded, with the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia emerging as key growth markets, he said.
Abeysinghe said the country is on track to surpass 18 billion U.S. dollars in export revenue in 2025. Sri Lanka's exports reached nearly 10 billion U.S. dollars in the first seven months of 2025, according to official data. ■
