KABUL, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Police have confiscated 40 kg of opium poppy and arrested an individual on charge of attempting to smuggle the contraband from the northern Afghanistan Baghlan province, provincial director for counter-narcotics police Mullah Mohammad Nabi Kamran said Saturday.
The alleged drug smuggler had hidden the contraband in a car and was attempting to take it to the capital Kabul city, the official said, adding police discovered the illegal object during checking and took into custody its smuggler.
Similarly, police reported the discovery of 31 kg of opium poppy and the detention of an alleged smuggler in Badakhshan province on Friday. ■
