Tajikistan joins key Central Asia cooperation treaty

DUSHANBE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Thursday signed the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st Century, according to the presidential press service.

Rahmon inked the treaty in Dushanbe following talks with visiting Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance.

They also exchanged views on strengthening inter-parliamentary dialogue ad reviewed progress in preparations for upcoming high-level events, including the Commonwealth of Independent States summit and the Central Asia-Russia meeting.

The treaty was initially signed in July 2022 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan by the presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. It commits its signatories to strengthening regional peace, stability and security, while promoting cooperation in a wide range of fields, said the presidential press service.
