TOKYO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- A man in his 60s has been injured in an apparent bear attack in Akita Prefecture, northeastern Japan, local media reported on Monday.

The 69-year-old was found on Sunday lying on the ground bleeding from his head, and a passer-by alerted the fire department, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing local police.

The man, who was reportedly conscious, told paramedics and a doctor that he was attacked by a bear while jogging, according to police.

Prefectural officials said this is the eighth bear attack this year in Akita, and have issued a warning against Asian black bears across the prefecture, the report said.

Local police are patrolling the area, calling on nearby residents to remain vigilant.
