ASTANA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed a roadmap on Friday aimed at boosting bilateral trade to 3 billion U.S. dollars in the next five years, the Kazakh presidential press service said.
During his official visit to Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov, where they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership, according a statement from the presidential press service.
The two leaders also agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, improve border checkpoints within two years, and enhance cooperation in transport, digitalization and e-government.
Tokayev highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts in water and energy management, reaffirming Kazakhstan's readiness to implement joint projects of strategic significance.
Japarov, for his part, said that a favorable political climate has been created for expanding trade, attracting investment and strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. ■
