KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's labor productivity per hour worked grew 3.4 percent in the second quarter of 2025, registering 43.2 ringgit (10.23 U.S. dollar) per hour, official data showed Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement that the total hours worked in the country also increased by 1 percent to 9.7 billion hours.

Labor productivity per employment rose 2.8 percent in the second quarter of 2025, with value added per employment reaching 24,887 ringgit per person.

This was supported by a 1.6 percent increase in total employment to 16.8 million persons.

"With the propel of stable economic and sustainable labor market conditions, Malaysia's labor productivity is well positioned for a resilient positive outlook despite challenges in economic uncertainties and labor market reforms," it said.

The department added that continued investment in skills development, including digital transformation, communications and analytics, will be key in sustaining the enhancement of labor efficiency. (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollar)
