JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) said here Tuesday that the country has seen a sharp rise in financial fraud cases, with total public losses reaching 4.6 trillion rupiah (about 282.9 million U.S. dollars), mostly involving legal financial service providers.
According to the OJK, the Indonesia Anti-Scam Center (IASC) has received 225,281 reports from the public since it was launched in November last year.
"Since we opened the report center, there have already been 4.6 trillion rupiah in total losses reported by the public," said Friderica Widyasari Dewi, OJK's chief executive for financial services business conduct supervision and consumer education and protection.
The official made the remarks during the launch of a national campaign to eradicate scams and illegal financial activities.
So far, the OJK has blocked 72,145 accounts out of 359,733 reported and suspended a total of 349.3 billion rupiah in victims' funds. (1 Indonesian rupiah equals 0.000062 U.S. dollars) ■
