HANOI, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's national election council convened its first meeting on Wednesday to begin preparations for the country's upcoming general election, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The election, scheduled for March 15, 2026, will elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and people's councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said the upcoming election will take place under a new two-tier local government model, marking a significant structural shift that requires adaptive leadership and updated organizational strategies.
The council plans to integrate digital technologies, including the use of the national digital ID app and apply information technology throughout all stages of the election, he said. ■
