Gov't forces kill a woman Naxalite in India's Chhattisgarh gunfight

NEW DELHI, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A woman Naxalite was killed Friday in a gunfight with government forces in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The gunfight between Naxals and joint contingents of police and border guards of the Border Security Force (BSF) broke out in the forests of Amatola and the Kalpar area of Kanker district, about 170 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

"Today, a woman Naxalite was killed in a gunfight with joint contingents of police and BSF," a police official said. "The gunfight broke out on a forested hill within the jurisdiction of Chhotebethiya police station. Following the culmination of the gunfight, the body of a woman Naxalite, along with a weapon, was recovered from the site."

According to police, the government forces have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.
