VIENTIANE, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Northern Laos' Luang Prabang province will intensify socio-economic development efforts by focusing on tourism, agriculture, and logistics as key pillars to build a strong and self-sufficient economy while preserving its world heritage status.

Luang Prabang province has unveiled its 2025-2030 socio-economic development plan, focusing on tourism, agriculture, and logistics to build a strong, self-sufficient economy. Central to this strategy is the preservation of its world heritage status, which is vital to all sectors, according to the report by the news website Lao Phattana News on Thursday.

All policies will be closely aligned with the World Heritage Protection Plan to ensure sustainable development and long-term cultural preservation, it said.

The province aims to attract 10 million tourists by 2029, generating an estimated 4.9 billion U.S. dollars in revenue while prioritizing green and sustainable growth.

Known for its cultural heritage and natural beauty, Luang Prabang is also considered the rice and water basin, sustaining local livelihoods.

Luang Prabang province, some 220 km north of the Lao capital Vientiane, is one of the most well-known provinces in Laos and a top tourist destination for its old temples, scenic attractions and rural landscapes.
