VIENTIANE, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare hosted a consultation meeting to discuss and develop strategies to strengthen regional cooperation and ensure the continued protection of migrant workers across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The meeting, held here from Tuesday to Wednesday, aimed to advance the implementation of the ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, along with representatives from ASEAN member countries.

According to the ministry's report on Wednesday, the meeting reviewed the implementation of the 2018-2025 Action Plan on the protection and promotion of migrant workers' rights and developed a new five-year plan for 2026-2030.

The meeting underscored the importance of continuing efforts to implement the 2018-2025 plan, which outlines key activities and priorities for promoting the rights and interests of migrant workers in the region. Notable progress has been made under this framework, including the development of policies, protection mechanisms, and improved information sharing to safeguard and enhance the well-being of migrant workers.

The meeting also served as an important platform for open discussion and the exchange of experiences, both within ASEAN and with external partners. Participants reviewed progress made and set strategic priorities for the next phase of regional cooperation on migrant workers' protection.
