NEW DELHI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) dropped to 0.39 percent in May, data released by the federal ministry of commerce and industry on Monday showed.
The WPI inflation dropped to its lowest level in 14 months.
"The annual rate of inflation based on All India WPI number is 0.39 percent (provisional) for the month of May 2025 (over May 2024)," according to the ministry's statement.
"Positive rate of inflation in May 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of manufacture of food products, electricity, other manufacturing, chemicals and chemical products, manufacture of other transport equipment and non-food articles etc.," it added.
The WPI inflation rate was 0.85 percent in April and 2.25 percent (final) in March.
The WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to steep increase or decrease in commodity prices globally. ■
