JAKARTA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is currently working to increase downstream investment in the copper sector, which produces secondary products with high added value, an official said on Tuesday.
Rizwan Aryadi Ramdhan, director of mineral and coal downstreaming at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, said that Indonesia already produces copper cathodes and plans to expand into other derivative products, such as copper foil, copper slabs, and more.
The official noted that, so far, copper downstream development in the country remains limited to tier one, as seen with PT Freeport Indonesia, which currently only produces copper cathodes.
"That's what we want to pursue. We aim to produce the next tier of derivatives, which few business actors are currently manufacturing," he said.
To attract investment in the sector, the official said that the ministry has prepared several incentives for investors, including tax holidays, tax allowances, and overseas promotions. ■
