PHNOM PENH, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's new-vehicle market has experienced significant growth in the first quarter of 2025, said an auto distributor RMA's report filed to the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) on Friday.

"In the automobile sector, internal data suggests the overall market is on the rise by 48 percent during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the similar quarter in 2024," Kevin Whitcraft, chairman of RMA (Cambodia) Plc., said in the report.

This represented 19,000 units purchased during the January-March period this year compared to roughly 12,830 units during the same period last year.

A number of world-class car brands, including Ford, Land Rover, Changan, Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, GAC, BYD, Hongqi and Tesla, are available in the Southeast Asian country.

Cambodia has also seen a significant rise in electric vehicles (EVs) in recent years.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the kingdom registered a total of 2,253 EVs in 2024, up 620 percent from only 313 units in the year before.

The three most popular EV brands in the country are BYD, Toyota, and Tesla, the report said.
