DHAKA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The central bank of Bangladesh has released a new series of banknotes themed on the historical and archaeological architecture of the country.
The newly-designed banknotes were introduced into circulation through bank branches in capital Dhaka on Monday.
Queues at bank branches in Dhaka were seen on the first day that people were able to collect the new banknotes for Eid al-Adha festival which will be celebrated here on June 7.
The central bank said that the existing paper notes and metal coins will remain in circulation alongside the new notes. ■
