COLOMBO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's state-run Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reported over 29,000 power outages across the country as of Friday afternoon, following heavy rainfall and strong winds brought on by the ongoing monsoon.
CEB crews were working to restore power, and the public is encouraged to report outages or safety issues through the CEBCare mobile app or by calling the CEB hotline.
The Disaster Management Center said that 1,757 people from 485 families have been affected by the inclement weather, which has impacted nine districts.
Sri Lanka is experiencing heavy rains and wind speeds ranging from 30 to 50 km per hour in several provinces from Thursday evening. The meteorological department warned that these weather conditions would persist for the next 36 hours. ■
