NEW DELHI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- At least four Naxals were killed Friday in a fierce gunfight with government forces in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said.
The gunfight broke out in the Kawande area of Gadchiroli district, about 821 km east of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.
According to police, the search operation was carried out by the joint contingents of police and paramilitary on specific intelligence information suggesting the presence of Naxals in the area.
Currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India. ■
