SUVA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Fiji plans to launch a Safe City Project to enhance public safety and security through advanced surveillance technology and network infrastructure.
Under this initiative, Telecom Fiji will deliver high-speed fibre connectivity and CCTV infrastructure spanning the Suva-Nausori corridor.
All video feeds will be terminated and monitored at the Fiji Police Command Centre in the country's capital, Suva, according to local media on Thursday.
The project's successful implementation across Suva to Nausori will pave the way for its replication in other regions around Fiji, setting the foundation for a nationally integrated safety network.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said this is a critical development in modern policing, aligned with the organizational intent of maximizing the use of technology.
"With real-time monitoring and broader coverage, we will be better equipped to respond to incidents, deter criminal activity, and keep our people safe," Tudravu said. ■
