ISLAMABAD, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Two policemen were killed and another was seriously injured in a militant attack in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday morning, official sources said.
A group of seven to eight unidentified assailants riding motorbikes opened fire and hurled grenades at a police checkpost in Bannu district at around 1:00 a.m. local time (2000 GMT Tuesday), the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Police forces retaliated, exchanging fire with the attackers, and during the encounter, the casualties occurred, the sources added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Police cordoned off the area following the attack, and an investigation and search operation are currently underway. ■
