Kyrgyz president receives speakers of CSTO parliaments

BISHKEK, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov received leading members of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the press service of the Kyrgyz president reported on Monday.

During the meeting, issues of regional security, strengthening inter-parliamentary interaction and further development of cooperation within the CSTO were discussed.

The Kyrgyz president, addressing the participants of the meeting, said that the modern world is facing many new challenges, including terrorism, extremism, cyber threats and climate change. He emphasized that all these factors put pressure on stability in these countries and require consolidation of efforts.

The president outlined the significant role of parliaments in developing and supporting effective mechanisms for interstate interaction.

Japarov emphasized that efforts within the CSTO should be aimed at building prompt and coordinated actions in the spirit of alliance, mutual understanding and support. He noted that Kyrgyzstan, as the presiding party, is firmly committed to strengthening the organization, increasing its authority in ensuring peace and stability in the region, and respecting the sovereign interests of member states and their right to their own development model.

Chairman of the CSTO PA Vyacheslav Volodin noted the importance of parliamentary dimension in the activities of the organization and emphasized that the efforts of the parliamentary assembly, combined with the decisions of the heads of state, make it possible to quickly respond to emerging challenges and ensure coordination between member states.

In his speech, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov briefly spoke about the work done by the Secretariat within the framework of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship in the organization and expressed confidence that the coordinated work of all bodies will contribute to strengthening peace, security and stable development of the entire region.

A meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council was held in Bishkek on Monday. The heads of parliaments of Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Belarus took part in the work of the Council meeting.
