KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's new car sales climbed nearly 1 percent year-on-year to 60,527 units in April, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said Monday.
According to MAA, the total industry volume (TIV) for April 2025 was 16.8 percent lower than 72,730 units recorded in March.
TIV for January to April was 5.8 percent lower than the same corresponding period in 2024.
MAA attributed the lower TIV to the long Hari Raya break in April and the high festive deliveries in March.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's car production slipped to 56,313 units in April.
From January to April, the country's car production fell nearly 13 percent year-on-year to 233,916 units.
MAA expects TIV in May to be higher than April, driven by higher demand from the East Malaysian market due to local festive celebrations at the end of the month, a higher number of working days in May compared to April, and the sales effect from introduction of new models from earlier months. ■
