Cambodia's exports of garments, shoes, travel goods up 20 pct in Q1

PHNOM PENH, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported garments, footwear, and travel goods totally worth 3.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2025, up 20 percent year-on-year, an official said on Wednesday.

"The growth reflects Cambodia's sound economic performance amidst global complexities and uncertainties in political and economic aspects," Sun Mesa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, said in a press release.

The garment, footwear, and travel goods sector is the largest foreign exchange earner for the Southeast Asian country.

The sector currently consists of about 1,538 factories and branches, employing approximately 913,000 workers, mostly female, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.
