VIENTIANE, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Laos will implement a nationwide initiative to relocate communications, telecommunications, and low-voltage power lines underground, aiming to improve the urban landscape and enhance the safety and reliability of its electrical and telecommunication infrastructure.

Electricite du Laos (EDL) will work with the private sector to conduct joint feasibility studies to assess the technical requirements of the project, according to a report from EDL on Wednesday.

The project is expected to further strengthen efforts to modernize the country's utility infrastructure and will be implemented in three phases.

The first and second phases will focus on central districts in Lao capital Vientiane, while the third phase will expand to major cities and key inter-provincial connections.

The project will support Laos' broader goals of modernizing infrastructure, advancing digital capabilities, and promoting urban development.
