KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The producer price index (PPI) of Malaysia decreased by 1.9 percent in March, official data showed Monday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the decrease was primarily due to the mining sector, which suffered a decrease of 15 percent in March.
The manufacturing sector also recorded a 1.8 percent decline.
Similarly, the electricity and gas supply sector posted a 0.5 percent decrease.
However, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector kept a positive trend, up 9.9 percent
The water supply sector also registered a modest increase of 0.7 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, the PPI for local production declined by 0.6 percent in March. ■
