MANILA, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Inflation remained a top concern for Filipinos, according to a survey by an independent polling firm Wednesday.

In a survey of 2,400 adults conducted from March 23 to 29, pollster Pulse Asia Research Inc. said that 69 percent expressed concern about controlling rising prices of essential commodities.

From a list of 16 urgent concerns, the pollster said, "Controlling inflation remains the top issue for seven in 10 Filipinos, who see it a national issue requiring immediate government action."

The survey said the second urgent national concern is increasing workers' pay, at 36 percent. Sharing the third spot are combating graft and corruption and fighting criminality, at 28 percent, then reducing poverty, at 27 percent, and creating more jobs, at 20 percent.
